RECEPTION AT THE MAYFAIR

Jordan held 'an afternoon reception-for New Zealanders—visiting and 'resident. Invitations ;were, sent; out to! about ;400 guests,! the: ■majority of, whom were present. :Vlt-.was .a' yery/:iiappy;;func-: tiph,: reminiscent of bygone years wh?n receptions , such as this were compara^ tively frequent.. Mr., arid Mrs. Jordan made" everyone, very welcome, v and when New, :Zea.landers , get, together they,constitute:'a happy family., 'High Commissioners' [from other parts of the Empire were invited, .with their wives. Mrs. Jordan \wore, on her dress of dark blue, a spray of : flowers all. of New/Zealand Varieties.,:' It was-a>pre-setit' toVher from:, a "'■ New/Zealand,■ girl in London../ Afternoon, tea; was served at-the tables^ in ::the ballroom.:'where a small orchestra was in;attendance playing soft music that acted; as ; an accompaniment to conversation without interfering with it. -■■■'.■■,
One of the i earliest to arrive, was Lordßledisloe, looking well after his .South African tour. Recent arrivals included Sir Clutha Mackenzie who, with Mrs, A. V.-.Macdonald, was welcomed by numerous friends. "Mrs. E. Penrose-FitzGerald, lately returned from Lima, meeting many' people whom she knew, was accompanied by her husband; they have come to settle in- London. The Hon. Mr. Justice Blair, Mrs. Blair, Professor W: B. Benham, .Captain J. J. Cameron, Mrs. Cameron, Dr. and Mrs. J.. Condliffe, Sir Cecil Day, and Mrs. W. H. Parkes, Lady Myers with her younger daughter, and Lady and Miss Herdman were among those who met many friends. Heads of the High Commissioner's Department and many of the.staff were present. . ■ .'.''■'.
