SYDNEY, April 9.
Sydney, Aubrey Maddocks, aged 56, formerly' Government -Road Transport Commissioner, who was suspended from, duty on ■ March 2 and charged with indecent assault on a male,, was today convicted and sentenced to eigh-. teen months' imprisonment. .
In a dramatic statement from the dock, Maddocks said that some time ago his official duties had become so wearying that he had felt he was'bordering on a complete breakdown. He tried drinking heavily, without getting relief. ..■'.'■■
A youth whom he had been trying to help had quietly planned his destruction, he declared. He denied that there had been any association between the youth and himself. • ' ' The youth, in evidence, admitted having been deported from New Zealand.
