KHANDALLAH ELECTRIC TRAIN SERVICE
(To the Editor.)
s Sir,—As one who has: been.'a ;regu-1 lar traveller on the Bell and Railway ■> buses since: the commencement of the service twelve; years- ago; I can ;.-saythat neither the criticism of the Ngaio Progressive Association, nor the eulogy of the Railway Bus Service; by. Mr; Mackley, are justified. The.Bell Bus service was an excellently-run one •in all * respects, ■ and i'-the- continuation ..of , the. service by .the Railway Department has'been), satisfactory/with the exception of two old buses, put. on 'by. the .Department, v.-the universal, .criticism of, and complaints; about ,wliich, ; can scarcely have failed to reach Mr. Mackley. No one could describe these two buses as being, in'any1 way satisfactory. ; :: '.■'.-.; •"■'■" ■'■■■ :- What the people of Khandallah, and Ngaio are most concerned about is not the buses, but when we are going. to get our electric train, service.- .This was originally expected to have been running this month, - then July was mentioned, and now there are rumours that it will not be running until the end .of, the year. ■ /Until > we, get this service there is bound to. bemore/or less; dissatisfaction in the district with regard to transport. ~- . In connection with trains, when the steam.trains run into the new station in. June,..there will no doubt be . a substantial increase in suburban traffic; Would it not be possible; to .arrange to have the suburban trains make a stop at Simla Crescent,' where a new station is planned in any case. for the electric train service? If this new station ■ could be constructed during the next few weeks, and,.suburban steam trains stopped there, it would1 be a great convenience to a'number of residents of the district.—l am, etc.,;
TWENTY-FIVE YEARSRESIDENT.
