WIGHTMAN CUP TEAM

CHANCE FOR A VISIT

On October 12 of this year, the British Wightman Cup ladies' team is expected to leave the United States by the Mariposa on a tour of Australia which will probably last 14 weeks. The team is not due back in England until about the end of March. As negotiations have only just been completed, the New Zealand Association has had no opportunity of endeavouring to arrange for a short tour by the team in New Zealand. However, the opportunity is one that should not be lost, and there should be no insuperable difficulties in arranging such a visit. The question of sending an Australian ladies' team overseas in 1938 has been considered by.the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia. It was agreed that it was too early to make a decision, but that the views of the State associations should be obtained immediately.

Following a suggestion by iU. representative in England, , Mr. E. H. Youdale, the council decided to accept any amendment of its proposal to the International Lawn Tennis Federation for, the inauguration of a ladies' international competition, provided that such an amendment would facilitate the movement.
