AIRAM'S NOTABLE EFFORT
Among the most notable performances at" the Avondale Meeting last weekend was that of the two-year-old Australian-bred Brazen 'filly Airam in winning with 10.2 and running second with 10.10. When defeated she was conceding 441b to the winner, Highborn, another Australian-bred youngster, and her efforts at the end of a strenuous season entitled her to leading place among the northern juveniles. Nevertheless, she was easily beaten when she met Smoke ■ Screen and Francis Drake in the Great Northern Champagne Stakes, and that fact made the class of two-year-olds in Auckland this season appear rather weak. ; P.rior to her Avondale racing a Wellington sportsman -was negotiating for the purchase of • Airam, but the deal was not completed; It will now be of interest to observe,if the filly can come upas freshjand.^well'next season as. she has been at: the dose of' the •present term. Fair Weather, after being off the scene for some time, is again in strong work at Riccarton. He is gradually getting back to good shape, and he should be ready to resume racing before the end: of the season. ■ . ; '..,
