GUESTS BECOME ILL

WEDDING SEQUEL

FOOD TO BE EXAMINED

(By Telegraph—l'rcsa . Association.»

HAWERA, April 9,

Of nearly .100 guests who attended. a wedding reception and breakfast at Eltham yesterday the majority complained; afterwards of illness. Some were'; mildly affected, but others developed violent- nausea with headaches, dizziness, and loss of the use of ■their limbs. The. symptoms indicated a form.of food poisoning,' arid samples of-the food were taken-by the District Health Officer- for bacteriological examination. Many of the guests had to receive medical attention and some are still under treatment.

■ Perhaps one clue to the cause of the^ illness comes from the experience of one family.,-. Only the adults attended the wedding, breakfast, but a child, who was left at home, was promised "something . nice from. the bride's table." The mother arrived home with three - small cakes filled .with, cream which-the child.ate, afterwards becoming violently ill. ; .'■.'.
