March 31: was commented upon .at the annual meeting of the.'Feildirig ,Fire Brigade. :The loss amounted to £127,:- on' buildings' and £80 on .contents. ..Mr. D, S. N A . McCartney,..' representing ' the .Fire Underwriters,. Stated; that Feilding'was on the same rate as some: parts .of Wellington,: where there was a more efficient, fire-fighting service as weir as a"1 betted water supply.::-The rate for a.fully detached .dwelling..in Feilding was as low as .anywhere, else in New Zealand. The chairman (Mr. W. E, Cartele.vir) commented, that it was extraordinary that the. fire loss in New Zealand was low during the: years of depression and' high during "the boom yeaifs.f.
