FRUIT MARKETING

LACK OF ORGANISATION

COMMENT BY MINISTER

(By Tp|e.sranh.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

Lack of organisation in the marketing of fruit was very evident, said the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. W. L. Martin) in an interview today.

The Minister, who has returned from a tour of the fruit-growing areas in Central Otago, said that the South Island fruit growers were enjoying a very prosperous year on account of the destruction of crops in Hawke's Bay and also on account of the increased purchasing power of the people creating a greater local demand. •

Referring to the lack of organisation that was evident he remarked that there was no national system for ascertaining the requirements of the different markets and for regulating supplies. There was, he said, a necessity for cool stores in the fruit-growing areas to enable fruit to be held so as to prevent gluts in the market.
