DIRECTOR RESIGNS

AIR COMMERCE BUREAU

WASHINGTON, March 1.

Mr. E. L. Vidal, director of the Bureau of Air Commerce, formerly assistant general manager of Trans-Con-tinental Air Transport, Ltd., and organiser of Ludington Airlines, Ltd., has announced his resignation, to be effective from tomorrow. He said he intends to enter the aviation industry, from which he has received many offers. He declined to discuss the fact that the bureau has been a target for much criticism due to .the great number of transport crashes recently. Senator R. S. Copeland, a leading critic of the bureau, expressed regret at the resignation. He said that divided responsibility which the bureau had set up, and not the director, was to blame for the laxity of the administration.
