AN EVENING PARTY
HARD-OF-HEARING LEAGUE
FOUNDER WELCOMED BACK
Mrs Hurd-Wood, the founder of the Wellington branch of the League for trie Hard of Hearing, was warmly welcomed back, after.an extensive twelve months' tour abroad,,'by "members of the executive committee, ■ students of the lip-reading classes and: friends of the League for the' Hard; of Hearing at a party on. Saturday evening arranged by-the student members of-the social committee.
Mr. B. A. Moore said how delighted all the members of 'the Wellington branch were to welcorrie back Mrs. Hurd-Wood. f He remarked' on how much they !owed to her outstanding energies, and stressed the fact that had it not been for Mrs. Hurd-Wood the Wellington branch of the League would not yet be in existence.
'It was mentioned that another special visitor, Miss Ash, was present. For the past five years Miss Ash had been doing invaluable work in. connection with the lip-reading classes given,by the League in Auckland. Miss Ash possessed the qualities of a remarkably fine teacher, as all her students could testify. Her work had included the training of two teachers, Miss Gallagher, who is in charge of the Auckland branch, and. Miss Eggletpn, in charge of Wellington branch. ■ Mrs. Hurd-Wood said she had been greatly pleased..and surprised' by ■ the progress made byi the' League in /Wellington, .during her absence. She;-, related several interesting incidents from her varied experiences amongst the Hard of Hearing Leagues in other countries and showed ■ some unusual souvenirs. ;, ••..,'. \, =''.'■■.<..>. - ;. y .:,
. Mis's:Ash also.congratulated.-the-Wel-lington <* branch upon its growth 'and activities among the hard of hearing people of the district. She said how glad she was to be passing through Wellington just at the .right time to be : present at this "welcome party" for Mrs. Hurd-Wood.
