SUNEE IN SPLENDID TRIM
Trentham stables will not '.be: represented at .meetings to be held'over the coming weekend, but' with - the Wellington Meeting only, just over a week off the brigade trained at headquarters were all out doing earnest tasks this morning.'l The weather, was ideally fine, without breath. of wind. ,:'. The middle of .the trial grass has been opened for last worky and the going on it was excellent. As'timing on this circuit is done from the f back peg/the horses received the worst of.it.- '. .
Sunee (J. Nicolson), with Good Sun (L. Nesbitt) picking him up:.near the five furlongs,- ran . seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec, the last- half-mile- in 52 4-ssec, and the pair were together at the .end.' ■ This gallop was done when. it.was just'daylight, and there was still a low mist about. Both horses, and particularly Sunee, are pictures of health.' ...' ' . .
■ Red Sun, stablemate of. this pair, was not out early, but he was to have visited thetrack later on' in the morning to do some schooling.- . ■■ Roaming (L. Faulkiner) did .seven furlongs well within himself in lmin 35sec,-the last half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Geitel (R. Lorigan) took lmin 47 3-ssec for a mile, the first half in 53sec and the last half in 54 3-ssec,. but she was not properly extended. . ■ Haupangi (C. Burgess) was half a length in front of Galteemore (R. D. Gerrard) at the, end of-six furlongs in lmin. 20sec, the last' half-mile in 53 2-ssec. Haupangi is the half-brother to Brabant who ran a promising race, first time, out on the final .day of the January Meeting, and he has- continued to improve since in his work, / Accomplice (B. E. Edwards), on the outside, was always a shade ahead of Sunny Blonde (Faulkiner) and Raroa (Nicolson) over five furlongs, and they finished with a-head and half,a length separating them respectively after taking lmin ssec for the full distance, the last half-mile in 5.1 2-ssec. This was the best short trial of the morning, and it was the likeliest piece of work that the two-year-old Colossus filly Raroa has yet; done.'- " ■ ■•. .- • ■ -■'
Darecourt (Nicdjfion): was going' very easily alongside Sfea Wrack- (S. R. Farland) at the end of seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec, .the last half-mile ,in 54sec. Darecourt looks particularly well at present; but he is hardly a Thompson type. Sea Wrack, who' has been troubled with a splint, is aIBO in very fit condition physically. .
Arctic, King (R; Hawes) finished on too well for Rona Bay (Lorigan) at the end of a mile.; in. lmin^Tsec, the last half in 52 2-ssec; Rona-Bay was clear in the early ■ stages, but Arctic: King caught her in the. straight .and. was a head' in front passing, the post! Arctic King especially has been improved with his Wbodville racing.. . . Laggard (J. McCauley) ran seven furlongs alone in lmin 35sec, the last half-mile taking 55sec. Several other horses were put working, but they were not seriously - set against the watch. .-.■''•'■
Acceptable is.under treatment for a boil on his back.-and he was worked on the-, lead this morning. " Such work probably suits him as well as anything. Alunga. is also on the outpatients' ■list, haying knocked..his legs about when he galloped into a wire fence after being let out of his paddock by some blackberry-pickers, but his hurts are mainly superficial.
