CHOCOLATE BOXES
BETTER DESIGNS AVAILABLE
A competition for designs for choco-late-boxes a few years ago seems to have had an excellent effect on some of the better chocolates, says an English writer. . Some of the chocolateboxes are a present in themselves, being made of carved lacquer or charming china jars which it is a pleasure to keep afterwards. Special "caskets" are, made with arms or other special designs, naturally at a great cost, and the really more interesting new boxes are those of a more perishable or commoner nature which, if they do not come within reach of the ordinary person, at least have a suggestion that they might. There are, for instance, attractive barrels, beautifully made, which are filled with truffles. Mere paper is decorated with a finely-coloured medallion, which gives it an appetising look. One box in particular is made of snow-white Japanese rice-paper with a little green dragon, sitting alone <in the centre of the raised hexagonal lid.
There is still wanting a chocolate-box which is at once cheap and distinguished in the sense of the French hat-, box or the boxes which are issued .by the big French stores. Many people can make a supremo effort, but not everyone can succeed in doing the little thing superlatively.
