GRAND NATIONAL RIDERS
Those people who are following the fortunes o£ Ivor Anthony>'s pair in the Grand National—Royal Mail and Drinmore Lad—will be interested to know who are the likely riders, says "Sporting Life" of January 14. Mr. H. Lloyd Thomas, who has ridden with success and gained a victory in the Grand Seftdn 'Chase at Aintree with Destiny Bay, owns Royal Mail, but will not "ride his eight-year-old. It is practically certain that Royal Mail will be ridden by Evan ■Williams, and that D. Morgan will be on Drinmore Lad.
As a result of- his excellent showing at Birmingham on January 12, Royal Mail has gained still more friends, and he is established as favourite at a very short price,. considering that the weights will not be known for some time and that the event- is generally regarded as most open. "Sporting Life" of the same date announced' that the American- candidate. What Have You, had left Maryland and was due to arrive in England on January 25. He was being ac-1 companied by his trainer-rider, W. B. Street!, and would complete, his preparation with the other Americans, Battleship and Flying Minutes, at R. Hobbs's place at Lambourn.
At both Wellington Meetings so far held this season the Chokebore Lodge stable has produced a fresh two-year-old to win two races in two outings. The first was Counterblast, and the other was Haughty Winner. It was thought that there might be another unraced juvenile to be introduced to racegoers at the coming meeting, but there will be none, as the stable is relying on its known hand, comprising Haughty Winner, Ball Dress, Mulatto, and Lazybones.
