/■■.' :,CHRISTCHURCH,,This Day. • A slight reduction in numbers, as compared with last year, has .-been recorded in the entries that closed yesterday for the two principal events at. the Canterbury: Jockey Club s Autumn Meeting,: the -Great . Easter Handicap and the Great Autumn Handicap. Twenty-four nominations have been received for each race, which represents a decline of eight and two respectively on last year s ,figures. There are less than the usual number of candidates from the North Island, but the full strength of the South is engaged. In the Great Easter the North Islanders are Martara, Chief Ranger (owned in Christchurch),. Mandamus, and the stablemates Lowenberg and Friesland. In the Great Autumn, besides Martara, Chiet Ranger, Mandamus, and Lowenberg, there are the Trentham pair, Sunee and Arctic King. Interesting entrants are Kinnoull, Wino, and Trench Fight for the shorter race, and Trench Fight and Silver, Sight 'for the longer race, as these. horses have. recently been off the active' scene. . . Mandamus is another candidate of interest, as his nomination suggests that the, stable may be sending a small team south at Easter, as well as going to Ellerslie, and in this case another of the team may be the highpriced two-year-old Courtcraft, who is engaged in the Champagne and Challenge Stakes , but. has' no■'. classic engagements at Ellerslie.
