In London's first air-conditioned flats you can give yourself any atmosphere you like, from hot to ice-cold, humid to dry, states an exchange. America is left behind in this, say the experts in charge, for instead of the usual large plant for the whole building, each of the 30 flats has its own installation, so that even -the most eccentric tenants can have their■■ air exactly as they wish it. -. „ :
Air is cleaned, too, in the process. The dust-trap is tipped out for inspection, with results as surprising as the nasty heap of dirt which the vacuumcleaner man will extract from a supposedly clean carpet.
One of the first.tenants to be installed has planned her flat very cleverly. To break ■ a severely plain, wall she has had wooden sections built out to form alcoves, each arched in Regency style and having floodlit shelves for objects dart. Wall and ceilings'in this room are.almond green. Plain pastel shades are definitely "in" for winter decoration.
