SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. Pressure is high to the east and also over the greatev portion of the Tasman Sea,'but a shallow depression has persisted just west of the Dominion. Consequently, dull disty conditions have prevailed with scattered and Mainly light rain, but Nelson reports as much as 271 points, Farewell Spit 212, Westport 116, a and Arthur's Pass 115 points. Though strong in some exposed positions, winds have been generally only light or moderate in force, southerlies prevailing yesterday from' Cook Strait southwards, but by this morning the direction had become north-easterly or northerly over most of the country.
