GISBORNE SENTENCES
| (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. Four prisoners appeared for sentence before Mr. Justice Blair in the Supreme Court this morning. Tahati Toki, j found guilty of assault on a girl, "was sentenced to one month's goal, his 'Honour remarking that a previous term of probation had been ineffective. .■■.■■"
For attempted carnal knowledge, Sam Waifcare received twelve months' probation, for breaking and entering and theft Pinihi Te Puni three years' probation, and for bigamy Leslie Henry Hanger twelve months' probation. His Honour said that Hanger had not heard from his wife for ten years, and had not received replies to his letters. There were unusual circumstances, and probation was justified. . '
A tribute to the memory of the late Mr. Philip Mcßae, a member of the Thorndon Bowling Club for fourteen yeara, was paid by the Wellington Bowling Centre last night. The president (Mr. W.. Gilbert) said that Mr. Mcßae had been one of the best-loved member:; of the Thorndon Bowling Club. He had been honorary treasurer of the club for five years, and his place would be hard to fill.
