SHOPLIFTING CASE
COURT'S DUTY TO TRADERS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. Dealing with a case of shoplifting where a married woman, aged 42 visited the shop of Frank B. Berry and stole four pounds of butter and a tin of baking powder while Detective Packman and Constable Sergeant were secreted in the rear of the premises, Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., on account of the woman's state of health, fined her £5 and suppressed her name. The Magistrate said that although he proposed to deal with the accused leniently in the circumstances, the Court had a duty to shopkeepers and traders.
