THE SMITH FAMILY

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—The Smith Family is in receipt of a number of letters, some of them anonymous, complaining that school children are collecting money for the Smith Family. It appears that envelopes are issued and children are asked to obtain subscriptions and return them to their teachers. The Smith Family'employs a. few, relief workers as collectors," and these" are supplied with "stamps" or "stickers" of three den»minations—6d, Is, ss—which are given as^ receipts for money subscribed. In addition we employ two other collectors who call on our members and regular contributors in the city area. No school children are authorised to make collections on our behalf and the Smith Family therefore will be very grateful if you would publish this explanation.—l am, etc., HON. SECRETARY SMITH*
