INTERMITTENT RAIN
Special forecast for Wellington:— i Strong and squally north-wester-ly to westerly winds, reaching gale force at times. , Weather mild and changeable, with intermittent rain. j The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is Tor strong westerly winds which will reach gale force in many places. The weather will still be squally and j changeable, with intermittent rain' in districts with a Westerly aspect, and I with hail and thunder in places. Some heavy falls are probable on the West Coast of the South Island. In eastern districts the weather will be mainly fair and mild, but with scattered rain in western parts and on the high country. :
Although, strong and squally northwesterly to westerly winds have continued to prevail, the weather on the whole has been mild and spring-like. A series of intense westerly depressions still continues to pass over the southern part; of' New Zealand, hence districts with a; westerly aspect and the far north and south have experienced further ram; Some heavy downpours have occurred in a few places from Taranaki southwards. Westport, for instance, has had a. fall of 132 points, together with a thunderstorm early this morning; Arthur's Pass one of 110 points; Cape Egmont 76 points, and Puysegur Point 66 points. Eastern coastal areas, on the other hand, have had fair weather:
Auckland's weather was cloudy yesterday, occasional very light showers accompanying a south-westerly breeze in the morning. It was cloudy at 9 a.m. today, with a north-easterly breeze.
Wellington's weather was fair to cloudy, and somewhat threatening in the afternoon, 4.3 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The wind has continued to blow strongly from the north-west, and a trace of rain fell last night and again early this morning. ■:. • ' .
It was rather cloudy in Christchurch yesterday morning, the wind being a light easterly. But the afternoon was mild and sunny with a light northwesterly. Conditions this morning were fine and. calm.
Dunedin had a fine, bright, and mild day with a light wind from the north. It was still fine there this morning, but the wind had changed to a light southerly.
