VICTORIA COLLEGE . NOMINEES
Two Victoria College students hay* been nominated as candidates for Rhodes Scholarships. They are H. L; Baker, 8.A., and G. E. Wilson, M.A. The final selection takes place towards the end of the year. ' Mr. Baker began his education at the Tahiinga primary school, where in. 1927 he took a junior national scholarship. In 1932, when he was a non-competitor, he was placed fourth in the University junior scholarship examination. Entering Victoria University College in 1933, Mr. Baker in llhat year passed the first division of gthe examination for the degree of of laws, and for a section of "the degree of bachelor of arts. In 3.935 he completed his B.A. degree, Rvas awarded the University of New senior scholarship in French, "and took third place for New Zealand in Latin. This year he ,w.as awarded the Victoria College Robert Stout scholarship. He has kept first class terms in every subject he "has taken. Mr. Wilson was dux of the Palmerston North Boys' High School in 1933. Two years previously he passed the University entrance examination, and in the following year,'while still at the high school, took history I'■ and Latin I for the B.A. degree as an extramural student of Victoria University College. In 1933, also as an extramural student, he took history 11, Latin | 11, and English I, and won the Rotary Club essay orize. In 1934 Mr. Wilson entered Victoria College as an internal student and completed the degree of bachelor of arts. Last year he took the degree of master of arts with firstclass honours in history, receiving the highest marks for New Zealand and an outstanding report from the examiner.
