MISSIONARY CONFERENCE

The third all-day conference of the Wellington Missionary Association was held on Monday in the Vivian Street Baptist Church.

»The association was. fortunate in having as principal speaker Dr. C. J. Rolls, representing the.Sudan Interior Mission. In the morning Dr. Rolls's subject was "The Mediator of Men"; at 2.30 he spoke on "The Master Missionary"; while at night his theme was "The Dignity of Our Commission."

In the evening a farewell was tendered Miss Amy B. Carter, who leaves shortly for work with the China Inland Mission. Attendances aggregating 600 showed the interest taken. Mr. H. N. Vivian, local secretary of China Inland Mission, told how .at the age of 10 Miss Carter had invested a shilling in a doll which, she dressed and sold for two shillings. From this small beginning she traded until £12 had been gained, when a friend subsidised this amount and the total was sent to China to build a mission hall bearing her name which stands today in Honan! "Surely." said the speaker, "such a one is qualified to go forth as a missionary!"

Di> J. M. Laird, on behalf of the W.M.A., handed Miss Carter a rug. Her pastor, the Rev. W. S. Rollings, offered a dedicatory prayer and Mrs. J. Worley.. on furlough, also spoke of her work in China.

During the day Mr. Mervyn Wilson, LL.B., spoke. In the morning Miss L. M. Byars told of her call to mission work in Spain. The chair was taken at the respective meetings by the Revs. D. B. Ford Carlisle. L. J. Boulton Smith, and M. \V. P. Lascelles.

E. Johnston and Co.. auctioneers, will ssll household furnishings at the residence. Merton Street, Trentham. tomorrow morning at 10.30 o'clock. They will also sell household furnishings at their mart. No. U Willcston Street, tomorrow at 1.30 p.m.
