A BIG "TOTE" INCREASE
The weather, after a dull morning, broke fine with an afternoon's sunshine for the opening day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting at Riccarton yesterday. The track was firm, better going than might have been expected after the recent rains. There was an excellent attendance, and the investments amounted to £54,091, as against £41,814 10s on the first day last year, an increase of £12,276 10s. Results were:—
