FURTHER SURPRISE
MONEY MINE'S ENFIELD
There was the third surprise of the day when the rank outsider on the win machine, Money Mine, came home at double figures in the Enfield Steeplechase. Money Mine had been backed and beaten a number of times during "the winter, but he proved best of a moderate lot over the-Ric-carton country after two of the others had fallen, and Thurina had withdrawn. . ■■■ ■
Money Mine was kept in a rear position for the greater portion of the trip. However, he started to move up from the Kennels, followed Royston over the last fence, and then immediately took charge. He did not have a great deal in reserve, but he comfortably held off Burglar by a couple of lengths. He is now eleven years old, but his success justified^ his return to the arena this winter. He is owned by Mr. W. Swale, for whom he is trained by H. Morton at Winton. Burglar stayed on better than Royston for second place and the other place dividend,, but there was not a great deal of merit in the performance of either horse. Royston assumed charge after Nocturnus and Otaura (King had come to grief. Nocturnus fell at Cutts's the first time and Otaura King, after fencing freely, somersaulted at the first of the Kennels. Kaokaoroa completed and was not far behind the places, but he was never much of a hope. Thurina failed to stand the strain of further racing. Six furlongs from home he was moving up like a winner but after the sod wall three fences out he stopped. He completed the course, but was in a canter from the last fence..
