"THE NEW MOON."
An unexampled opportunity is offered Wellington people at the Grand Opera House on Saturday next when the Wellington Operatic Society will open its nine days' season of' "The New Moon" with a matinee at 2.15 p.m. "The New Moon," when first produced by J. C. Williamson, Ltd., was .regarded as "The Firm's most important production for over a decade." It was filmed a few years ago by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with Lawrence Tibbett in the leading role. From the point of view of costuming and stage effects it calls for the greatest in theatre craftmanship. There is, for instance, a fight at sea between a stately galleon and a pirate ship that beggars description. And the music is by Sigmund Romberg, who has mastered the trick of putting heart-beats into harmony and gives us some of the most beautiful romantic numbers the musical stage has known. Cold, indeed, would be the maiden who could resist the melodious wooing in Robert Misson's principal number. Scenes in the first act are:—Grand salon of Monsieur Beaunoir'B mansion, near New Orleans; entrance to Chez Creole; interior of the Chez Creole; entrance to Chez Creole; same as scene 1 (evening). Second-act scenes are:— The deck of "The New Moon,"'late afternoon, three days later; the road from the beach, two days later; the stockade, one year later; same as scene 2. that evening; Marianne's cabin, that night: same as scene 3, daylight next morning. Details of the attractive admission charges are advertised.
