WORK OF COMMISSIONAIRES
(To the Editor.) Sir, —During the past week I have been a constant visitor to the National Art Gallery and Museum, and I would like' to take the opportunity, before leaving Wellington, of congratulating the Board of Trustees in bringing about a very fine and helpful, innovation last weekend, namely, the employment of returned soldiers in uniform «as attendants. I personally was thoroughly impressed with the dignified and Courteous manner In which these men went about their duties; the particular dark uniform worn, together with medals and white gloves was a pleasing blend with the edifice itself." The help rendered to me personally by. the commissionaires and the favourable comments which I heard from many others prompts me to write this letter in the hope that the Board of Trustees may know that their efforts to give the visitor full service and attention are not passed unnoticed.—l am,etc, john d. McCarthy. (To the Editor.) Sir, —As a visitor to your city, I took the opportunity to spend Sunday afternoon in your new Art Gallery. It is a wonderful building, a credit to both the city and country, and though there was an enormous crowd of sightseers I spent a very enjoyable time. I was particularly impressed with the uniformed commissionaires who were on duty. A distinctive uniform with medals and white gloves, a soldierly bearing, and quiet efficiency lent a dignity which would be difficult to improve upon. I overheard numerous complimentary remarks, and the authorities are to be congratulated on control of such a large number of visitors. The noise of the small boy element was noticeable by its absence, while two small offenders were promptly and quietly suppressed by a commissionaire.—l am, etc., ; W. M..M. WATSON. Cambridge, England.
