A TRAP FOR BEETLES
It is claimed that ultra-violet rays ire now being employed to kill harm:ul insects, particularly the Japanese ooetle. Finding that this beetle's eye is "tuned" to receive light waves of a length unseen by the human eye, an inventor- designed a trap, made of two reflectors, the lower one filled with water and a haif-ineh layer of kerosene. When the lamp is lighted the kerosene becomes luminous, emitting a blue-white light of very low intensity. which lures the beetle to death.
