SPIRIT PERFUMES.
Demand for toilet waters and Eau de Cologne in Australia has fallen considerably in recent years. Evidence given by manufacturers before the .tariff Board showed why: excessive excise duty. The average consumption of spirit perfumes in Australia, it was averred, was 2 to 3 oz per head per annum. Removal of excise duty in Great Britain, it was stated, had been lollowed by an enormous increase in consumption.
