Mr. E. A. Selman, who has been, appointed district employment officer of the Labour Department, taking the place of Mr. P. H. Kinsman, who has returned to the industrial section of the Department's activities, was farewelled by his former associates in the Hope Gibbons building on Friday, and presented with a gift by the Secretary of the Department (Mr. J. S. Hunter), who with other members of the staff, congratulated Mr. Selman and spoke ; eulogistically of his work.

A presentation to Colonel F. Symon, C.8., C.M.G., D.5.0., late Director of Artillery, was made on Saturday night at a gathering in Christchurch of officers who served in the New Zealand Artillery in the war. Captain F. F. Reid presented the colonel with an inscribed silver salver. Mention was made of Colonel Symoh's services to the defence forces of New Zealand, particularly to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Captain Reid recalled that the colonel had joined the Royal New Zealand Artillery as a cadet 38 years ago. He had commanded one of the New Zealand Field Artillery Brigades in the war.' Before his retirement recently! he had been. Director of Artillery in New Zealand. With the presentation, said the- captain, were the best wishes of those present. Colonel Symon replied. Other speakers were Colonel N, S. Falla and Mr. P. B. Cooke, K.C. (Wellington).
