JURY TAKES A WALK

"MUST BE 'TWO-UP' 1 PLAYERS"

Long before this the jury engaged in the trial of John William Shaw McArthur have probably become accustomed to being "shadowed" wherever they go by the two constables who have been in charge of them since they have been kept together from the time the trial opened over a week ago. But the sight of the twelve men with the two constables proved too much for an old lady.

The practice has been for the jury to take a "constitutional" walk each morning. It is related that they were in Tinakori Road on one of these excux--sions when an old lady exclaimed: "My goodness! These men must be relief workers. I heard they were caught playing 'two-up.' Fancy the police taking them through the streets!"

This comment could not be allowed to pass. She was politely told that the men were the members of the McAr.thur jury. The result: mental collapse of the old lady.
