SPEEDWAY RIDERS'

LONDON INCIDENT

"Jnlled rres» Association—By Electric Tel»-

(Received August 10, 1.30 p.m.)

LONDON, August 9.

The "Daily Mail" says that scenes unparalleled in the history of speedway racing occurred at Harringay Park: Stadium after Hackney-Wick had defeated Harringay in a League match by 38 points to 34 last night.

Dicky Case, the Australian international, and captain of the KackneyWick team, accompanied by his wife and other Hackney-Wick riders and Mr. Fred Whitehead, managing director ot the club, were departing after the match, when a shouting crowd of 2000 men and women assailed them repeatedly and struck Case and others. Mrs. Case was roughly handled, .her dress I being torn, while Case's motor-car was j wrecked, and attempts were made to | overturn other cars. The Hackney|Wick riders, amid a fusillade of brickbats and other missiles, reached their | garage, where their supporters rushed to the rescue. A fight developed, and traffic was held up till police intervened.

The, trouble is attributed to Case jailing while in the lead, causing a fourfold crash, for which nobody was to blame, but Norman Parker, the leading Harringay rider, injured his foot and was unable to continue. Hackney-Wick had twice before caused a surprise by defeating Harringay. Mr. Whitehead has asked the Board of Control immediately to inquire into the incident.
