GENERAL MANAGER'S STATEMENT
A largely-attended meeting at the Hutt • Railway Workshops passed the following resolution on Friday:—
"This mass meeting- protests against the- apparent victimisation of trade union officials in the Hutt shops, and calls upon, both organisations to take immediate steps to have the status of trade union officials placed on a satisfactory basis. Furthermore, we vequest that the Government in cooperation with the unions take action to stop the pin-pricking methods employed by the management of the Hutt shops."
This was followed by a deputation to the General Manager (Mr. G. A. Mackley), who visited the shops on Saturday. When interviewed today he said: "I could find no evidence of pin-pricking, and I believe the men themselves would agree that there is no such thing as pin-pricking in evidence in the management of the shops. I had a discussion with the representatives of the men on Saturday morning, and these discussions were entirely satisfactory to the men and to | the management."
