OLD BOYS' DINNER
qnhn f v? 13 Of Otago Boys' -High school history, were represented at a highly-successful old boys' reunion dinner at the Royal Oak Hotel on Saturday night. Recent students and old boys whose years of attendance went back as far as the seventies of last century paid affectionate - tribute to their old school. 'Recollections of the vicissitudes, the joys, and the sorrows of school years, and of subsequent experiences in the great school of life, including, in the case of one speaker episodes in Egypt, Chile, Bolivia, and other parts of the world, Were exchanged. Mr. John O'Shea presided Q^ n -iE ro,? osijif, the toast of "The School," Mr. O'Shea referred to the extraordinary influence in character building that the old Otago Boys' Hi«h school had had upon its boys. He did not know how; the formation of an al•lied college similar to Rongotai College would affect Otago Boys' High school, but there appeared to be no dimming of its brightness. .Mr P- Levi; Mr. E. J. Salmon,1- and Mr. J. .B. Moody replied, - ■ Mr. O. G. Adams gave an interesting talk upon his experiences as a metallurgical engineer in various parts of the world, particularly in various parts of South America, where he was in charge of different mining ventures. In proposing the toast of "The Masters," Mr. C. G. White traversed the list of able men who had taught at Otago Boys' High School from 1863 to the present time. Secondary school masters, he said, must be to a large extent responsible for the condition of a boy' when he emerged from college to meet the changing- problems of the outside world.
Mr. G. T. McNaught and Mr. E. M. Christies replied." ■ The toast of "Kindred Associations" was proposed by Dr. H. McLean and replied to by Mr. Len McKenzie (Wellington College), Mr. W. H. Gledhill (Waitaki 8.H.5.), Mr. R. C. Bradshaw (New Plymouth 8.H.5.), and" Mr. A. M. Leslie (Timaru 8.H.5.).
The toast of "Athletics" was proposed by Dr. P. A. Treahy and replied to by Mr. M. Paulin and Mr. K. Moore.
