COST OF LIVING
(To the Editor.)
Sir.- -This Government is assuredly making history by increasing the cost of living. The fallacy of a 40-hour week solving our employment troubles with such incidences as profitable hobhies affecting industries, doubling employment tak to workers by compulsory unionism, increases in rents (rates), increased cost'of travel to employment, increases which.must follow for light, heat, clothing, food for the home, ratio of business rents through reduced selling and manufacturing hours and increase on ratio of capital charges through lesser use. The recovery to better times was being firmly re-established by natural swing of the pendulum, and acceleration will not help. True, the previous Government made many errors, yet it seems to me that the present Government policy of "rushing the fences" is an error. The brightest and best part of the outlined policy, namely National Superannuation is on the deferred list. My restoration of 2s 6d per week is announced—the average worker receives his 10s per week.-rl am, etc., PENSIONER.
