UNIVERSITY TOO STRONG

University were on top throughout the game when they met Oriental at Kelburn Park. The University backs were superior to Oriental in all departments and their efforts secured five of the students' eight tries. In the forwards both teams were evenly matched. If there was any advantage it was to University, who were slightly quicker off the mark. The students lost many points by small infringements when in handy scoring positions while Oriental did not use the wind in the second spell to the fullest advantage. V The teams were:—

University: —Tricklebank, Ekdahl, WUd. Fitzgerald, Reid, Larkin, RTe Cunhffe, Burke, Gibbons, Wilson, Desborough. Blacker, Eade, Russell. Oriental.—Fulford, Hale, Webster, wakelin, Davies, Coxon, Murdoch

Dawson, Rankin, Searle. Harris, Kemp, Sinclair, Hempherson, Hunt. From the very outset of the match University backs proved their- worth as a scoring. unit, Wild leading off with a fine try which he again repeated later in the match as well as kicking a penalty and converting one try. Both the wingers, Ekdahl and Fitzgerald, gained a try each, and time and again were forced out in the corner, while Reid, at second five-eighth, also scored after a heady run which took play the entire length of the field. Although Rae, University's half-back, did not score, he was responsible for converting three of his side's- tries. So taking the entire back line they proved worthy of their colours. The forwards were not to be outdone by their backs and worked hard throughout the game, Burke scoring twice and Gibbons once. . •

For Oriental, Harris and Davies were responsible for the team's two tries, while Hale was in form with the boot. Oriental worked hard in the closing stages of the game but the opposition's defence was too strong and could not be overcome in the short time that remained. • Taking the game as a whole the spectators saw open and fast-moving Rugby. Both teams threw the ball about a good deal. final score was: University, 35, Oriental 13. ■ ■.

Mr.' McArtney was referee.
