(By "Rangatlra.")

.The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting, one of the, leading fixtures of the* season in the Dominion and which concludes the winter session proper, will be opened at Riccarton tomorrow, when die Grand National Steeplechase and the Winter Cup will be the main races for decision. On the fields that have been secured there should be some thrilling and exhilarating racing. The issues throughout the day are very open, a tribute to the work of the club's handicapper, and in the majority of events it is not even possible to discern who the actual favourites may be. .■.-■-•■ ._The meeting will be continued on Thursday, when the Grand Natiohal Hurdles will be the leading item, and it will be concluded on Saturday,"with, the' Lincoln.'. Steeples and Sydenham Hurdles as main attractions. A feature item on this year's programme will be the Duke of Gloucester Cup, for the amateur riders, on the second day, the C.J.C. being the first South Island Club to be granted the privilege of staging this annual race for 'the Royal trophy.
