OBITUARY

A VETERAN PRINTER

The death occurred on Wednesday at Auckland in- his seventy-sixth year of Mr. John Clark, managing director of the firm of Clark and Matheson, Ltd., printers, a very well-known fig: lire- in business and sporting circles in Auckland for many years.- He was born in Auckland in 1860. He served his apprenticeship to the printing trade in trie "New Zealand Herald" office, remaining in the employ of Messrs. Wilson and Horton for thirtyseven years and leaving to found the firm with which he remained actively associated for the remainder of his life... . ."';;'. ', ■, ; ■ ' ". ;..;■.' ..^

An enthusiastic supporter of rowing, Mr. Clark was captain and president of the West End Rowing Club, president of the Auckland Rowing Association arid of the New Zealand Rowing Association. He was also a prominent member of the Manchester Unity Oddfellows, being a past grand master of the New Zealand branch. Mr. Clark, was also a member of the Rotary Club from its earliest days. He was the international correspondent of the Auckland Rotary Club, and last year was a member of the board of directors. His wife predeceased him twenty-one years ago. He is survived by a grownup family of three daughters and three sons. . , :..■'■'
