NEW ZEALAND VICTORY
WORLD RECORD IN 1500 METRES
J. E. Lovelock^ of New Zealand, won the 1500 metres in world record time from one of the finest fields in the history of the race at the Berlin Olympic Games yesterday. He took a clear second off the former record and won easily by five yards. The first five men to finish returned times faster than the Olympic record established at the 1932 Olympic Games at Los Angeles. The time returned by Lovelock was equal to a mile time of a fraction.over 4 minutes 4 seconds, two seconds fAster than the existing record. Immediately after passing the finishing line, the New Zealander trotted 100 yards to pick up his sweat suit, and was untroubled by the severity of the,race. ■
