NATIONAL ASPECT

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—Would you please advise me through your columns whether the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum opened on Saturday was originally intended to be the Dominion National War Memorial? There is an impression that it was to be our National War Memorial, apart from the Citizens' War Memorial, and that the Carillon was to be part of the National scheme. Am I correct in thinking that approximately all of the amount of £100,000 subscribed by the citizens of Wellington was understood to be for the National War Memorial and that the Government subsidised it on account of it being a national project? If my beliefs are correct, can you obtain information why the allimportant National War Memorial aspect has been abandoned in publication of the programme and in the newspapers, etc., although I notice that in your Saturday's issue you stated that "a recital will be .'given on the National War Memorial Carillon." I feel sure that the publication of the facts in your paper will be greatly appreciated Iby many, particularly those who have not yet forgotten the sacrifice of war.—l am, etc., ;

JOHN CITIZEN.
