DOGS CAUSE HAVOC
VALUABLE SHEEP WORRIED
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day.
'Two stray dogs created havoc yesterday amongst a flock of 70 stud Ryeland ewes grazing' on the Palmerston North Showgrounds. From six' of the ewes the wool and skin was practically torn off, while from 50 to 60 were bitten and torn more or less badly.
The sheep' were the property of Mr. W. G. Shannon, who reports that his loss is irreparable. Only a week ago he sold 23 four- and five-year Ryeland ewes at ten ginueas apiece for shipment to Tasmania, and the ewes on the showgrounds he would not part with, The sheep were just on lambing and the worrying was, for that reason, more than disastrous. Mr. Shannon has been particularly unfortunate in the matter of sheep-worrying and estimates that since before the war his losses in this direction have worked out at at least £200 a year.
