WIN FQR AUCKLAND

SECOND PLACE TO VICTORIA

CHRISTCHURCH, August 6.

The Auckland University College debaters won the Joynt Scroll from the holders, Otago University, in the annual debating contest tonight. Victoria College was second, Otago University third, and Canterbury College fourth.

Miss E. M. Johnston, 'Auckland, was judged the best speaker, with \Mr. J. S. D. More, Otago, second, and Mr A T. S. McGhie, Victoria,. third

The subject of the debate was "That collective security offers the best prospect for world peace." The contest took the form of two-debates. Victoria, taking the affirmative, opposed Canterbury in the first debate, and Auckland, taking the affirmative, opDosed Otago in the second debate.

. The judges were Professor L. G. Pocock, the Rev. A. C. Watson, and Mr. R. C. Abernethy.
