SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS.

Tho last of the recent series of westerly depressions was passing eastwards oft the Dominion this morning, and an anticyclone Is now approaching from the Tasman Sea. Strong northerly to westerly winds blew yesterday, but since early this morning a change to southwesterlies or- southerlies has taken place, over the greater part of the country. Further rain occurred yesterday in all western areas and In Otago and. Southland, while the weather was mostly fine east of the main ranges. By this morning, however, rain had extended to the east coast districts of the South Island and the southerly change had boeii accompanied by cooler temperatures.
