MANY DISAPPOINTMENTS
The Aga Khan's purchases of bloodstock in England have formed the subject of much writing, and a little list published in regard to half a dozen bought at the yearling stage and later on resold at auction for small amounts reads as fallows:— • ' , ' Bought when Sold yearlings. for . Gs. Os. Aft at), iby Papyrus ..... 14,000 125 Buland Bar, by Dloplion 3,000 105 Farman Far.-by Phaiaris' 9,100 ■ : 105 Hsikem, by Fr. Marcus.. 3,500 '180 Guußa Siugli, by. Splou .. ' '..'•" : Kop fi,200 3SO Ferldoon, by Fr. Marcus 17,000 25 ' -. 51,800 1,110 The other side of a picture is revealed in the Aga Khan's purchase and sale of Blenheim. As a yearling Blenheim was bought for 4100 guineas. He won stakes to the value of £14,533, which included the Derby, and in his initial year at ,the stud he sired Mahmoud, who won the Derby. Following on this came the sale of Blenheim to an American syndicate for a sum reaching nearly to £50,000. With fabulous wealth at his''command, financial, considerations do not matter a great deal to the Aga Khan, but, all the same, the purchase and sale of Blenheim serves to make the history attaching to that horse's career highly interesting.
