CONFISCATION ORDER
JAPANESE CAPTAINS' APPEAL

. SYDNEY, This-Day. A message from Noumea states that the two Japanese sampans captured in those waters' last month have been confiscated, with fishing gear arid trochus shell by order of the' Court after a fine of £60 had been imposed in each.case. .' ■■■■-.' .;,
The captains of the vessels have appealed against this action to the Higher Court. . ■■•■"• ~.'.
A message from Noumea on July 13 stated that a Japanese vessel suspectv ed of poaching was chased .by tha motor ketch Caledonieri near Yate for 90 minutes, and was finally caught and boarded. , Six natives armed with tomahawks and spears were put aboard and ■ the vessel was towed to Noumea, where it was detained.by the Customs authorities. The Japanese. vessel.. wa3 of 30 tons and had a crew cf 22 Japanese. Seventy up-to-date charts of various Pacific islands were found on boarS. ' ... ■■;. ~:... .'..-..
Subsequently another Japanese vessel was captured ' while poaching off. the New Caledonian coast. •■-,"'
