A BANKRUPT CLERK

A meeting of the1 creditors of Douglas Huia Dawson was held this morning, the Official Assignee, Mr, S. Tansley,.presiding. The bankrupt, for whom Mr. R. E. Pope appeared, returned his liabilities as £347 and liis assets as nil.

In his sworn statement, the bankrupt said that he was a clerk employed in Wellington. He had endeavoured to compromise with his creditors, but had been forced to file as an' order had been made on his salary and he wished to tAvvent one creditor from getting preferential treatment. He had incurred hospital and medical expenses for both himself and his wife and had ,borrowed at times, to meet : liabilities.

The meeting , was ' adjourned pending the hearing of a claim for main.tenance being made by his wife, as on the decision of the. Court in. this matter depended what t}ie bankrupt could' offer. •
