LEAGUE OF NATIONS

LOWER HUTT BRANCH

- Owing to other functions being held in the town there was a small attendance -at the annual -meeting of the Lower Hutt branch'of the League of Nations Union last evening. Mr. Craig McKenzie presided. The annual report stated that the membership had been substantially increased and much work done in stimulating public interest in the work of the League. Speakers' from the branch had addressed meetings of the Lower Hutt League of Mothers, the Railway Workers' "Union, Women's'' Christian Temperance^Union, Waiwhetu Progressive Association, Methodist, Women's Fellowship?-Interdenominational Youth Council, Toe H, and Methodist Men's Fellowship. , Mr. McKenzie said that the following remits had been sent from the committee to the annual conference:—"That the New Zealand League of Nations Union-fTaffiliates with the International Federation of League of Nations Societies," and, "that the New Zealand delegate to the next annual'congress of the International Federation be instructed to' move 'that in the,event of any country being named the aggressor by the League of Nations Assembly, the International Federation immediately organise; financial help for the victim of aggression by .calling on affiliated members to appeal' to their countries for'funds by opening public subscription lists, and that the'federation call upon its members,to boycott and, if.possible, organise a boycott of all 1 goods coming from the' aggressor nation ." r ' Another remit proposes that the conference -should urge on all branches the desirability of supplying a speaker to represent the League of Nations Union at the Anzac'Day ceremony in their district, and suggests that whereever possible the branch , should be represented in the parade., Officers were elected as follows:— •Patron, the Hon. He^spent six weeks in the United States' "talking 'on New Zealand, and it is his intention to return by the .same route in September, arriving in Australia about December. He will be talking on New Zealand at a number of export clubs and advertising clubs in England. The Rev. F. E.
