COUNTY CRICKET RESULTS

LONDON, August 4.

In one of the county cricket championship matches which were competed today- a change of fortunes in the second innings enabled Derbyshire to score an outright win against Essex after being well behind on the first innings. Nottinghamshire and Middlesex also gained the maximum points. The New Zealander Dempster scored a century for Leicestershire, and others who passed the 100 mark were Hulme (Middlesex), Hammond (Gloucestershire), and Bakewell (Northamptonshire). Larwood (Nottinghamshire) took twelve wickets cheaply against Surrey and Mitchell's bowling was' largely responsible for Derbyshire's win. THE RESULTS. The results were:— Nottinghamshire' y. Surrey, at the Oval.—Nottinghamshire 174 (Gover five for 61, Daley five for 49) and 118. Surrey 117 (Larwood six for 38) and 130 (Larwood six for 42, Voce four for 49). Nottinghamshire won by 45 runs. Middlesex v. Yorkshire, at Scarborough.—Middlesex 337 (Hulme 114; Tate five for 86). ■ Sussex 115 (Sims fojur for 37), and,' following on, 114. Middlesex won by an innings and 108 runs. Hampshire v. Kent, at Canterbury.— Hampshire, 125 and 217. for eight, declared (Arnold 96). Kent 108 (Boyes six for 54) and 148 for four. Hampshire won on the first innings. Lancashire y. Yorkshire, at Manchester.—Lancashire, 202 (Paynter 92; Smailes four for 46) and 174 (Bowes four for 17), Yorkshire, 246 for nine, declared, and 10 for none., Yorkshire won on the first innings.

Warwickshire v. Worcestershire, at Birmingham. — Warwickshire, 197 (Perks five for 63). Worcestershire 210 for five. Worcestershire won on the I first innings. . ■' '

Derbyshire v. Essex, at Chelmsford. —Derbyshire 80 (Fames five for 20) and 240. Essex 219 (O'Connor 87) and 87 (Mitchell six for 25). Derbyshire won by 20 runs. *

Gloucestershire v. Somerset, at Bristol.—Gloucestershire 281 (Hammond 161 not out) and 159 for six, declared. Somerset'l33, (Barnett five for 31) and 99 for five. Gloucestershire won on the first innings.. '

Northamptonshire v. Leicestershire, at Northampton. — Northamptonshire 168 (H. Smith five for 66) and 297 (Bakewell 151). Leicestershire 211 (Dempster 107; Jupp six for 83) and 182 for six. Leicestershire won on the first innings.
