BOARD OF CONTROL
At this week's meeting of the Wellington League Board, of: Control Mr. L." Benseman presided, .others present .being Messrs. G. O'Leary, E. Buckland, E. Dale, E. Elliot; F. Wis'nisky, V. Simpson, and W. Holland. Information was received that the Railway Department had arranged to ■run a special excursion train to Auckland on August .14 for the second Test, England v.- New Zealand. A_ letter, was received from the British Rugby League team expressing pleasure at the arrangements for the Wellington match and paying high tribute to' the Basin Reserve ground, which the team considered one of the best-playing areas encountered.on the tour. -
The -West Coast Rugby League has been invited to play the,Wellington'representatives at Wellington on August 29, and the Petone Club was given permission to arrange a fixture with the Taradale Club of Hawke's Bay. Requests for assistance in starting the code in Levin and Otaki were re-, ceived by the board, and it was decided to play a Wellington club fixture at Otaki, subject ;to satisfactory arrangements being made. . It was decided to play the following senior grade matches next Saturday:— St. George v. Hutt, at Petone, 3 p.m., referee, Mr. P. Childs; Central v. Petone,-at Newtown Park, 3 p.m.; referee, Mr. Kennerly.
