A NEW COALMINE.
A company has recently, undertaken-the.-mining -of -lignite' coal deposits between the north and south branches' of the Waihao -River,; near Waimat'e. The existence of the deposits. hasUeen' known^ for; many . yeai's, but previous attempts to extract the coal have been hampered by water.' The new-mine-is-at an elevation that-allows this disability to be overcome. Government estimates 11 olnn n?Ssi^- Place T the available coal at 2,500,000 tons. It is '. of good : quality,- and is reported to contain a high percentage of petroleum oil. ■ •'
