THE BUTTER FARMER'S COSTS.

Mr. A. J. Sinclair, speaking at the annual meeting of the Te Awamutu Dairy Company, contended that, if the dairy farmer had to receive a "lift" to place him on a par with other sections of the community, under recent legislation, the guaranteed price to. be declared by.the Government should be not less than Is 2d per lb for butter, equivalent to 118s per cwt London. This would have paid Is 3Jd.per.lb butter-fat in normal circumstances. But in his opinion the increasing costs to be faced by dairy companies this season would make it necessary for directors to budget for an additional expenditure equivalent to another id per lb butter-fat. The farmer's costs for farm requirements, wages, and expenditure for the home, would involve him in an increased expenditure equivalent on the very lowest basis to another Id per lb butter-fat.
